Rev. Vijayesh Lal serves as General Secretary of the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI).
The Evangelical Fellowship of India, founded in 1951, is the central organization of Evangelicals in India and represents and serves more than 65,000 Churches and over 200 Organizations across the nation. It is also a charter member of the World Evangelical Alliance (an NGO with special consultative status with the United Nations).
Rev. Lal has been at the forefront of issues connected with the Church and Religious Freedom in the Indian subcontinent for over 2 decades and has intensive grassroots experience and involvement.
He initiated the ministry of Open Doors International in the Indian Subcontinent beginning in 1999 and was serving as its Executive Director till December 2013. He is also serving as the National Director for EFI’s Religious Liberty Commission since 1999.
He has been deeply involved in training, socio-economic development, advocacy and research initiatives in and outside India and has participated and spoken at various national and international conferences on various themes connected with the Church in India, Religious Freedom, Youth issues and the Theology of and Response to Religious Persecution.
He writes for various journals and magazines including Christianity Today, Evangelical Focus, Indian Currents etc. and has contributed articles for books on Religious Freedom and Church’s participation in nation building. He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief for AIM, one of the oldest Christian magazines in India.
He is a member of the National United Christian Forum (NUCF) from its inception. The NUCF comprises of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India, National Council of Churches in India and the Evangelical Fellowship of India.
He is married and lives in Delhi NCR region with his family.
